Why Women?
I often get asked “Why women?”. The answer is simple: women are much more likely to end up in financial poverty. Women are often expected to take on the bulk of unpaid labour including childcare, cleaning, caring for elderly relatives, maternity leave etc. Then there’s the gender pay gap, disability discrimination and diversity discrimination. Many stay at home mum’s find themselves in dire straights when their husbands divorce them having not paid into any pension or not having paid any NI contributions and have no marketable skills. Everybody thinks it’s never going to happen to them but the fact is, it does, regularly. Women are much less likely to invest and much more likely to rely on their husbands to provide for them. A recipe for disaster in later life. But it’s not too late to turn it around.
